A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket will launch NASA's Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) mission. Two spacecraft will fly in elliptical orbits to study Earth's radiation belts and probe the influences of the sun. The mission has been built and managed by the Applied Physics Laboratory located at John Hopkins University.
Update as of August 25: Due to thunderstorms this morning, the Atlas V launch has been delayed. The rocket will be rolled back into the hangar as tropical storm Isaac is expected to reach Florida. The new target date is August 30 at 4:05 a.m. EST. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will not be open for viewing opportunities for this launch. We will open at 9 a.m. and invite guests to come enjoy the park after viewing the launch from one of our recommended off-site locations.
