Inspire their imaginations with a day-long, interactive experience at the world’s busiest spaceport.
During our Salute to Science event, students will:
- Attend a private briefing to learn about important science concepts related to space exploration
- Enjoy a private meeting with an astronaut
- Engage in a hands-on, minds-on Team Engineering Challenge
- Earn a special space souvenir
- Get a full-access ticket to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which includes special activities, lunch in the Rocket Garden, IMAX® films, the KSC tour, Shuttle Launch Experience, U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®, plus all shows and exhibits
Salute to Science participants will be greeted by the Education Team to begin their adventure at KSC. After meeting one of America’s astronauts and learning about space missions, a challenge is given to the students. This year’s Engineering Challenge is a Truss Build, which uses the same principles that engineers used in building the International Space Station.
To complete the challenge, teams of five will pick a name, a strategy and a design, which will hopefully create the strongest and longest truss span.
Prizes are awarded for winning teams within their age groups.
Dates: January 22, 2010
