In the all new Astronaut Training Experience® (ATX) at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, train like the next generation of space explorers who will travel to Mars, and be transported to the red planet to live and work for the day. During ATX, hone your docking skills, navigate the unique Mars terrain and experience the sensation of conducting a spacewalk in a micro gravity environment. Mars Base 1 invites Rookie Astronauts to manage operation, harvest vegetables in the botany lab, and work through challenges of thriving in the harsh environment. spacewalk training

Train for weightlessness and conduct your own spacewalk in the microgravity simulator. You and your crew will work together in order to successfully complete a series of training challenges needed to set you on a path to Mars, all while in a frictionless environment. This training stage is for individuals or groups ages 10 and older.

mars exploration simulators

Navigate the Martian surface! These full-motion simulations place you in the Commander and Pilot seats where you hone your docking skills and drive over the rough Mars terrain. You will also experience the sensation of walking on Mars through virtual reality. Nowhere else on Earth can you explore Mars quite like this. This training stage is for individuals and groups ages 10 and older.

botany lab

Food and oxygen for Mars Base 1 comes from the Botany Lab. There, you will plant actual seeds, harvest a variety of crops, and decide what to do when the greenhouse becomes threatened. Conduct research on plant species and use precise measurements before sending your data to real NASA scientists for their own ongoing Veggie project. This training stage is for school groups of 24 per session.

Set in a landscape of the future, Rookie Astronaut teams have the unique opportunity to manage the Base Operations Center on Mars, harvest vegetables in the Botany Lab, program robots to optimize solar energy intake and adapt to the challenges of thriving in the harsh Martian environment.
