"Picturing Apollo 11: Rare Views and Undiscovered Moments" Book Signing Event

Jun 08, 2019 12:30 - 3:30 PM The Space Shop

During this book signing event, meet J. L. Pickering and John Bisney, authors of the recently released Picturing Apollo 11 book. Through a collection of unpublished and recently discovered images, Picturing Apollo 11: Rare Views and Undiscovered Moments presents new and rarely seen views of the people, places and events involved in the first Moon landing. Most of the hundreds of photographs were selected from NASA archives and J. L. Pickering’s collection, the world’s largest private collection of U.S. human space flight images.

You are invited to purchase the book at the Space Shop or bring your own copy to be autographed by Mr. Pickering and Mr. Bisney. The signing will take place from 12:30 – 3:30 PM on the second floor of the Space Shop.

About the Authors

J. L. Pickering is a spaceflight historian who has been archiving rare space images and historic artifacts for forty years. Drawing from NASA archives, retired NASA personnel, news photographers and other sources, he has assembled a personal collection of more than 100,000 color and black-and-white prints and images. He covered the final Apollo/Saturn launch (ASTP) in 1975 and attended more than a dozen space shuttle launches. Today, he serves as a resource for authors, museums, astronauts and others.

Author and journalist John Bisney covered the space program for more than 30 years for CNN, the Discovery Science Channel, RKO, and Sirius/XM Radio. He witnessed more than 50 space shuttle launches and was one of the few broadcasters live at the launch site for the 1986 Challenger tragedy. Growing up in Florida, he saw his first rocket launch on Cocoa Beach in 1965. He attended the launches of Apollo 11-13, meeting President Nixon at the Apollo 12 launch; and covered the Apollo 16-17, Skylab 1-4, and ASTP liftoffs from the LC-39 Press Site.

This year, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is celebrating the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo Program. Learn about all of the other Apollo related events and exhibit enhancements happening this year.
