The early space program only recruited men for exploration beyond Earth’s surface. In the late 1970s, however, NASA selected its first class of female astronauts: Shannon Lucid, Margaret Rhea Seddon, Kathryn Sullivan, Judith “Judy” Resnik, Anna Fisher and Sally Ride. Tim Gagnon, who worked in the space program at the time, remembers the importance of female role models for his young daughter and niece. Hear the story of the effort Judy Resnik made for these young girls before her flight on space shuttle Challenger.
