Dr. Donald Linteris is a distinguished researcher and spaceflight specialist with over 471 hours in space significant contributions to microgravity combustion science and fire suppression technology research.

Dr. Linteris’ spaceflight career includes two missions aboard the Space Shuttle (STS-83 and STS-94), both part of the Microgravity Science Laboratory (MSL) program.

On STS-83, Dr. Linteris conducted critical research on materials and combustion science in microgravity; and on his second flight, STS-94, he continued this research. This latter mission lasted 376 hours and 45 minutes, covering 6.3 million miles or 251 Earth orbits, providping valuable data on combustion and material behavior in the microgravity environment.

Beyond his spaceflight contributions, Dr. Linteris has over 40 publications in combustion, chemical kinetics, spectroscopy, and heat transfer. His ongoing work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) continues to advance fire suppression technologies, while his NASA experiments aim to improve combustion safety and efficiency in space.
