Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Ceremony and SalesJan 24, 2019 11:30 AM Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is celebrating the 50th anniversary year of Apollo 11! On January 24, 2019, we will help launch the sale of the United States Mint 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program. You will have the opportunity to purchase these collectable coins from the visitor complex, honoring the moment mankind first walked on the Moon.
Join us for the kick-off ceremony at 11:30 AM, located before the main ticket entrance of the visitor complex. After, the coins will be available for purchase inside the Information building. You do not need to purchase daily admission to attend the ceremony or purchase the coins as both locations are outside the visitor complex’s ticket turnstiles. However, please note parking fees still apply. If you arrive early and enter the visitor complex before the ceremony, be sure to get a handstamp so you can return afterward.
Purchase daily admission to spend the day with us and meet an astronaut! Get your commemorative booklet, provided only to those who purchase the coins, signed by four veteran NASA astronauts. Like all of us, these astronauts were captivated by the groundbreaking achievements of Apollo 11. At the following times, be sure to stop by the second floor of the Space Shop and meet those who were inspired to further progress America’s space program after Apollo:
1:00 – 2:30 PM
Tom Jones and Curt Brown
Bruce Melnick and Dan Brandenstein
The ceremony is hosted with Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, along with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, Astronaut Memorial Foundation, the Smithsonian and the United States Mint. The coins depict iconic imagery of the historic lunar landing, so be sure to purchase a coin and take a piece of the celebration home!
