Chef Showcase: Get to Know Chef Gidget

Taste of Space at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex brings new seasonal bites throughout the visitor complex, and we want to introduce the Chefs behind the seasonal flavors. This week, meet Executive Chef Gidget. She oversees all culinary aspects of the daily operations including concessions, banquets and special events at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Her culinary story begins as a kid, where she said her mother was constantly in the kitchen creating delicious concoctions for the family. Feelings of joy and happiness were always present when her family gathered to eat dinner together and Chef Gidget carried those moments with her as she began a culinary journey.

In 1989, Gidget attended the Baltimore International Culinary Arts Institute earning a Culinary A.A., while also working as a chef for the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore. From there, Gidget went on to work with Hyatt for in various locations such as the Hyatt Regency Hilton Head in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the Hyatt Islandia in San Diego and the Hyatt Regency Cambridge in Boston. She worked her way to the top and became an Executive Sous Chef in 1994. In 1999, Gidget was promoted to Executive Chef and the Director of Food and Beverage at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah, Georgia.

Gidget stayed in Savannah for five years until a new opportunity arose in Kennedy Space Center, Florida. In 2004, she became the Executive Chef at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex employed by Delaware North, who manages the visitor complex on behalf of NASA. She has been with us ever since, constantly working with her team to craft new offerings for all our guests. To date, Executive Chef Gidget Wickham has earned the distinctions of a Certified Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation and Pro Chef II by the Culinary Institute of America.

Throughout her time at the visitor complex, Chef Gidget's goal has been the same: to make special experiences for each guest through the creation and preparation of food – whether a flatbread pizza for one or a private plated dinner for 500 people.
